I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada which is actually the city where the area code is 416. However, as a long time resident of Toronto I know that 555 is NOT A LEGITIMATE 2nd 3 digits! This is spam! For sure! Let me tell you this: When a commercial is made for air/posting around here and they need a fake number they use 416-555-xxxx as the number because NOBODY'S SECOND 3 DIGITS IS 555. So no one will get a spammer call.HOWEVER, this means that this caller is somehow displaying (416) 555-7777 as his/her caller ID while calling from a different number.Furthermore, I saw the 647 number posted above. 647 is the Greater Toronto cell phone area code. So that may be a legitimate number. However, it may not necessarily be the number of the caller who was spamming you.I am dissapointed that some retard is giving a bad rap to the 416 :(

This number has called multiple times the last couple of days.  Mostly shows up as 'unknown name', but did come up one time as 'sialk.ca' who appear to be a long distance reseller.

I finally did answer a call since the constant callbacks were annoying.  A woman asked for me by name and told me that Yak Communications asked her to call to give me a special money saving offer.  I cut her off indicating that the phone muber is on the National Do Not Call List, and asked they not call anymore.  Hopefully they will stop calling.

This guy sounded like he had an Indian accent.  Claimed he was from "The Debt Company". When I remarked that that was a very vague name he said, "I know sir, the company's name is confusing but that is the name of the company." I then allowed him to do his bit for a while and he mentioned that "his company was in the area doing a survey of mortgage payments" and he had noticed that we had made our last couple of months worth of payments on time and that he had an offer to improve our interest rate.  I knew when I picked up the phone that it was a scammer and I love playing with these jokers.  I informed him that I was on the National Do Not Call List and to take me off the list.  He asked me why. We argued for a bit and then I asked him for a manager and he said that he was the manager (how convenient). I then asked for his phone number. The one he probably pulled off of the list was a 416 exchange. I then asked for the company name.  He had trouble remembering that and eventually came up with "The Debt Company"  I asked for his name, "My name?" he said "My name is uh... Gary"  I followed with "And your last name is.." "Uhm... uh Nelson"  A traditional Indian name I suspect.  I asked him where he lived and he said BC then started to wonder why I was asking so many questions.  I then told him about the National Do Not Call List and that I needed this information so that I could file a proper complaint with the CRTC (Canadian FCC) for violation of the NDNC list. He said he wasn't in violation. I asked if he was a charity or if we had done business together before.  He said yes.  I asked which one; charity or business he replied with "I don't understand". I then asked if he was a telemarketer. He said yes. I read him the telemarketers requirements from the web page and then repeated. Are you a telemarketer. He said yes. I asked if he had a copy of the numbers on the DoNot Call list.  He said no then changed his mind and claimed that he was not a telemarketer.  I proceeded to argue with him for a while longer until he finally gave up and hung up.

Today I received a call from this number and could not hear anything, just somebody trying to say something but very far and very unclear. So, I googled the number and found all these comments here. In the meantime the phone rang again and it was my mom in law calling from abroad. I know that she is using a phone card to call abroad. So, this number is probably the number of the phone company that sells these phone cards. So people using these cards could be from anywhere in the world I imagine. Some just  misdial the number and get to you instead of the intended person and some might misuse the card to place a scam call. Just be aware it is somebody from abroad and might not necessarily be a bad person.

Online pharmacy wanting me to 'refill a prescription'. ?When I informed them that this was my work number and I wished to be removed from his list, he hung up.

My employer has been receiving dozens of calls almost daily from this number. My staff is being constanly harrassed by different callers daily. My employee's are reporting they fear for their safety. Each time they call, we request to be placed on the do-not-call-register to no avail. Do not accept these calls. Always fight terrorism anyway you can!
