Haha just got this call from 630-869-6962, sounded like a scam right away, I was folding laundry and kept the girl on the phone for a half hour by playing dumb ("Website? Ok, um, I can't find the big blue 'E', do you know how I find it?") until she got fed up, passed me to her supervisor, who got fed up much more quickly and hung up on me! As far as I am concerned, I just cost THEM money by wasting that call centre's time. I've seen some comments here defending what they're doing as just trying to sell timeshares. But I am sorry, cold calling people and misrepresenting your business qualifies as "scam" to me.

I had this number come up too - I just listened, pressed one, talked to the dude, asked to be added to the dnc list. They did it - never happened to me again. Just be calm and ask and they will comply. It is a scam - don't give them any info.
Just as a heads up - I was listening to the radio a week back and I think that these guys may have actually got the phone numbers from the federal DNC list. If you are not aware as to how that is SUPPOSED to work - you submit your name via the website and they register it for 5 years on the DNC list. What is supposed to happen is that the companies purchase this list of phone numbers at their expense, they then use that list to clean their sample and remove those phone numbers - if they call those numbers they can be fined.
So that sounds great and all but what I have heard is that some of these companies have been purchasing the list and then calling those people on the DNC list!! The government is not persuing any fines they issue. So there is no deterent for them to stop.
I dont' put my cell phone number out on the internet and it has still been poached so another thing they could do is to do what is called random digit dialing - they get the area code and nxx (the first 3 digits of your actual phon number) and then randomly dial numbers on the last 4 numbers. The best thing to do is to press 1 - listen to the guy and then say "please add me to your dnc list".

The number is from the UK, it's just missing the country code (44), this is why you can't call it back.
