I received a call from these guys and like you, i thought i would let him have his say. I feel stupid now because i let him get as far as to gain access to my computer- he was able to move my mouse and type etc. He downloaded an anti-virus program and then wanted me to pay $300 for it, which i refused. He said he would send me an applicatrion form to filll out, which i also refused and eventually hung up. I am wondering now what i should do to pprotect my secrity- and how much access he could have gained? I changed my bank account passwords, on another computer but do not know if this is enough?Any information wouyld be helpful- thanksDW
Eff the scammers!
Yes, definitely a fraud, however I'm afraid "the authorities" can't do much except get the phone number disconnected. Then they will start using a different phone number. These people are committing fraud outside the country and no court in Canada will prosecute them. What is a local police sevice going to do - send officers to Inda to arrest a sweat-shop full of people earning $5 per week and bring them to Canada and prosecute them? Even if the ring-leaders can be identified they will not be prosecuted here or in India (or whatever country, it's not just India). And it's not just one set of fraudsters. There are many of these rings operating.
And I agree with the first commenter - there should a a FRAUD section to choose from because 'Telemarketer' just doesn't cut it.

A scam company that currently goes by the name techbuddha. Go see their legitimate looking website at www.techbuddha.com. They also have bogus facebook, twitter and linked-in accounts. They called me from Canada but have scammers is a couple of other countries including the US and UK.
They get you to a website that you download an executable that you execute and let them remotely control your computer. They then copy 'scanner' software to your desktop where they execute it. The software reports many problems that they then encourage you to 'fix' buy paying them a one time only 179.99. (Don't worry, it's not expensive. You can install their 'fix' software on all of your computers!)
I wish I could choose 'commit fraud' from the call type for this number.

Frauds - Want to access my computer remotely and install virus to hack details i.e. bank etc.
Dont give them access to the computer at all.

That was a good idea to change your passwords from another computer. I would also contact the bank, to see if there is anything else you can do.

Jason here again. I thought maybe this company was not the responsable ones and it was someone else just using their service. I rang the company to advise them what had happened and the lady was a real t**t. She said well sir if you do not want the tech to remote into your PC you need to get their names and phone numbers. I said does your company tell their names when you call? And she said oh, oh im not sure. You should talk with our techs they are really helpful. So it seems like it is this company. Dodgy as.
