PLEASE READ: I also received a call from this number, with the caller claiming to work on behalf on Microsoft. The caller asked if I have a computer with  Microsoft Windows and I said it had. The caller stated from their records it shows that my computer has a virus and needed to be fixed, but the only way to fix it, I would just have to give the caller permission to access my computer from where he is. This is called "remote access" After hearing this, I remembered a story on the news I saw about scammers asking the same things, but they were from Nigeria and South Africa. The scammers would gain entry to the victims' computers and steal all of their personal information, for example, PIN numbers for debit, credit cards, banking and financial records, and account info and passwords for online money accounts, like Paypal. This was happening in my area of Halton Region. Anyway, while the caller was still on the line, I started asking him questions. I asked what was his name?  The actual name and phone number where he claimed to work. In a thick accent that isn't custom around here, he said his name was "Joe" and he works with Microsoft at their head office in North Carolina of the United States of the America. "Joe" said he couldn't give me his work number for privacy reasons. I asked him for an agent number, tech number or customer service rep number. Something that his manager or Microsoft could identify him by, then you could hear the nervousness in his voice and then suddenly, his tone and demeanor became aggressive. "Joe" stated he didn't have to give me any of his personal info and I said neither do I. Then I dropped the bombshell telling him about the news story I saw on the news. And the police asked the public to notify them if anyone receives calls from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, saying your computer has a virus, malware or spyware that needs to be fixed. I told "Joe" that I would be calling the police and calling Microsoft and his call was recorded. Joe began swearing & yelling at me and hung up!! After this I googled the phone number for Microsoft's Head Office located in North Carolina where "Joe" said he worked.  I called the number and spoke to the Manager of Customer Service, I told her my story and she stated that she has been receiving calls like mine, quite frequently in the last few months and then before that, it would happen in spurts over the last few years. She stated that to her knowledge, these scams are actually happening to people, mainly those who live in the U.S, but have also been showing up in many countries and now in Canada. The manager claimed the scams originate mostly in South Africa and Nigeria., where the scammers are calling their victims. Most of them lose everything and the police have been in contact with her, but she wouldn't say what the police are doing with the info they receive. The manager said I did the right thing by not giving him any personal info and not allowing him remote access to my computer. By doing so he could have erased, copied, deleted or saved any of your personal files, especially ones containing financial and banking data. She told me to keep spreading the word about these scammers and how to protect yourself.

This is a total scam, do not follow their instructions, their is no legitimate company that will "see" malware ("junks" as he called it) on your computer and phone you about it.
