They are calling you because you owe money on your Canada Student Loan.In fact it's because you are behind in payments.And if you don't answer, and deal with their s***, they will hand over your account to a collections agency, and damn your credit rating to hell.

This isn't a scam, its a contracted service for the NSLSC (National Student Loans Services Centre). They call to remind you when your loans are about to enter re-payment, are in arrears or have other issues. It's not a "bad" call necessarily, unless you're actually behind on payments.

I just called Student Loans to double check. The agent I spoke with said the number was one of theirs before I got the last 4 digits out. I guess it's legit. I called Student Loan's 866 number. They had called me because they tried to mail me something and had an old address on file.

Mwar's comments read like the shysters that run this scam. It's not the official organization. It's a boiler room run out of Mississaga. Call the actual student loan people if you think you have problems. The people at this number are ambulance chasers. A government org won't give you a b***s*** electronic message to wait on the line. It's canadian student loans... I had moved and my address wasn't updated so they had returned mail, i's not necessarily collections.
