I received a call on Saturday, 27 November saying that I had been pre-selected for a free cell phone.  All I had to do was pay for the 3 year rental agreement.  I started saying "I don't need a cell phone." over and over like a mantra.  After saying this about 10 times, she gave up on me and started asking me if there was anyone else in the house who wanted a free cell phone.  When I said "NO", she said "Okay, have a good day."  I could tell she was not impressed with my tactics.  The woman had a very thick South Asian accent.  They did not say who they were.  I smelled a scam right from the get-go.  The local number does slip under the radar.  I know better than to answer toll-free numbers on the weekends.

I received a call from (905) 310-2355 saying it was Bell Canada and offered me a free cell phone if I agreed to a three-year contract.  I gave them my name, address, date of birth, e-mail address and work tel number.  This is something I normally do not do!

The phone was to be delivered in a few days.  I then received a call from 406-8325 (a gentleman) confirming my personal information and that he would call me back in 30 minutes.  After the time passed, I called the number to find it out of service.  The message to the 905-310-2355 number is that it is not available from my area.

I now believe I'm the possible subject of Identify Theft.

Others beware!!

I have been pretty much harassed by this number too..They say they are calling from Bell Aliant.. they have a free cell phone for me. They called tonight but about a month ago they called.. I answered their questions for a bit then got annoyed so I hung up and they called 13 times that night and they even tried blocking their number to see if I would answer. Calling Bell aliant now.

1:00 p.m. August 11, 2011, Got a call, one of those typical computer-generated ones where the person on the other end doesn't start talking till the second time you say "Hello", and then you hear lots of other operators talking in the background at a call center.

Speaker said he was "James", calling from <mumble mumble>. I said "Please take my number off your calling list." He said "No." I hung up.

Really glad to see other comments here, to know that this is a dummy number being used for internet-based calling. That explains a lot. Effing telemarketers and scammers!!
