Definitely sounds like a scam. M. Evans in Hythe Alberta - No street address.
They wouldn't answer my questions as to what company they represent so I hung up. I called my Telco (Bell), but have little hope they will or can do anything judging from the info other recipients have posted on this site. Will maybe try RCMP but Canada is notoriously weak and useless when it comes to scams and white-collar crime.
I think this is outrageous especially when you hear about trusting old folks believing these people and losing a lot.

no name just a number. after checking the number out online (780) 356-3646) out online I've recieved unwanted calls from them before. I have my name on the do not call list and am ticked I'm still being bothered by companies like this.

Same old, same old fricking scam about credit cards. Aren't you all getting tired of this endless lack of imagination on the part of criminals? I know I am. So this time its 'Mildred' is it (nice old-fashinioned granny type name ... person to be trusted). Ususally they use names that have angelic tone to them (Michael, Rachel). I'm waiting for one of them to say, "this is Cain calling with a deal you can't pass up to reduce your credit card interest rates". Are these criminals all unemployed marketing grads, or what? I guess they think we are all dumb. 780 is northern Alberta. They are using this number today on the chance that those of us in a neighbouring Province will pick the phone up because it may be someone we know. The scammer sweat shop could be anywhere in the globe though.
Vigilant Citizen
Complaints from people regarding the phone number 780 ? 356 ? 3646 commence here in September 2011 and continue on through to May 2012. In this day and age of heightened surveillance and high-tech security, how is it that someone utilizing the same phone number and attempting to pull off the same scam for more than six months, can't be caught? Do any of our so-called "watchdog agencies" even care? The fact that these type of phone calls are proliferating so rapidly shows that little is being done to mitigate the crime. A recording at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre instructs the complainant to contact their local police, though a representative at the Centre ( formerly called Phone Busters) told me the police will only act upon a crime that has been committed or if there is property loss. That is total B.S. because there is an obvious intent to commit a crime, and that should be enough for the police to act upon. If the police observe someone acting suspiciously, do they not immediately question the suspect to ensure nothing unlawful is being perpetrated, or do they wait until an actual crime has been committed? If I call the police and tell them that someone is walking up and down my street appearing to be casing homes, are they going to wait until a property is trespassed upon or broken into before they respond? When the police set up a roadblock and stop you for questioning, have they not already concluded that you MIGHT have committed a crime, even though no intent has been demonstrated? And by doing so, have the police not violated your constitutional right to the "presumption of innocence?" Why should known fraud-artists not be treated with at least the same level of scrutiny? No doubt people have already been defrauded by these tele-scammers, with many likely being the aging and infirm. Regardless of what law enforcement deems as "intent", the fact is crimes ARE being committed. If the police aren't following up on them, they are in dereliction of their duty to uphold the law.It took me over two hours on the phone the other day to finally find the proper number to report this type of scam, largely due to a comedy of errors provided by the MasterCard Co. ( yes, the real one). In Canada, these are the contact numbers you need to call:Canadian Anti?Fraud Call CentreToll-free: 1-+1 888-495-8501Overseas and local: 1-(705) 495-8501Toll-free fax: 1-+1 888-654-9426E-mail: info @ antifraudcentre.caCall your local phone company and inquire what they're doing about criminals fraudulently utilizing their telecommunications system. If they try and pass the buck elsewhere, ask them what they would do if you were the one making phone calls claiming to be a credit card company while attempting to extort confidential banking information from telephone company subscribers. Contact your local MP and inquire whether they are aware of this criminal activity, and what, if anything, is being done to prevent it and apprehend the guilty parties. Don't let the city's finest off the hook either. Give the police a list of numbers with pages printed off from 800 Notes or other sites that host complaints about phone fraud. Record personal phone messages or whatever else you think might provide evidence that someone is intending on defrauding you or already has. Remember that your hard-earned tax dollars are going towards paying these public servants to act on your behalf. If they're not in the business to "serve and protect" you, who is it they're actually serving? Coincidentally, as I finished typing this, I received a phone call from 519 ? 900 ? 0475. When I answered, the woman caller asked if they were speaking to the man of the house. I responded by saying they were speaking to the police. They said sorry and quickly hung up. I'll be surprised if I receive another phone call from the same number.
