This just came up on my phone, no answer when i picked up.....very annoying

got a call from the same number  on october 1st at 2:24 pm, and it rang once.
i didn't answer it anyway, coz i didn't recognize the number, but i believe it's a scam too...if you don't recognize it, don't answer it.

got a call from this number saying that i won some travel points if i press 1.definitely scammers.

got call too .. message said 'you have won travel points or discount or something of $2600 or $2601, press 1 to claim'

i just hung up

778 is cell prefix for BC

someone is using cell phone, probably pre-paid, to do automated dialing.  

but from people's reports above, nothing happens when you press 1.

i suspect it is some scheme to test phone numbers for viability.  perhaps they get our numbers from some harvesting method, then test them to see if answered, if press 1 or not, and if answerer was male/female voice, detect accent if any, and to record what people say eg do they swear, or ask who is it etc.

its a kind of intelligence gathering scheme.  prob can get some interesting demographic, marketing data doing this.

it is borderline illegal though as it is calling 'do not call' numbers, and if the users could get their heads together, we might discover that the harvesting method is illegal or unethical too.

yep, same number called me this afternoon; did not answer though. I'm actually from british columbia so i'm used to the 778 area codes, but this number came up all whack on my phone... i think it's a v.o.i.p line of some sort because usually when a 778 number comes up on my phone it comes up normally since i live in the area and have a 778 area code myself. I have had myself on the do-not-call list for a few months and have had no problems with any telemarketers until today. by the claims made by other posters regarding free vacations, my guess is that this company is making illegal calls since i'm not the only one who has recieved them while on the list, according to this forum. i'm finding out how to report this number..... i can't f***ing stand telemarkets, bunch of straight-up do***ebags. i always hate hearing them say "well i'm just doing my job, sir," because there's always the option of getting a job where you don't f***ing piss people off for a living. f*** 'em... -  end of rant. -

Called me on my cell this afternoon. When I answered it, all I heard was the microsoft windows "shutdown music" play 3 times (nobody in the background talking) so I hung up.
