Received a call this morning on our home phone (N.B., SK), and it was dead air.  I called them back, and the recording said it was "Magic Jack".

You can't block it because it is not a real number, Information Brokers and other scammers are only after your personal information which they sell to others which also turn around and sell your number, typically you won't just haven one group calling you from the same number, they will also come in groups, they all use modern technology, like VOIP devices, smart phones and applications, help from your Service Provider, and so on.  They want any of the following:  either your name, mailing address, telephone number or IP address on the internet, if you don't think they are related you are sadly mistaken.  Once a group of scammers or Information Brokers get you to answer the phone, they now know the number they have IS LEGIT! That would be everyones first mistake.  Never answer an unknown suspicious number, let it go to voicemail, if they haven't left a message then you can be sure it's a scam.  NEVER give out your name, confirm you number or address, never give out your information online either, since Facebook, Google mail, etc etc etc ALL LIE and give out your information to the CIA, and marketing strategy groups who THEN sell your personal info to strangers whom could be scamming you all the way from China!  

Complaining about any unknown callers will not help, your government will not help, your service provider will deffinately not help, DNC lists are scams in themselves, best answer is to be smarter and more educated then the smarty pants callers.  Remember anyone who calls you is lying about who they are and what they are doing, trust this!  I could do it too if I were unethical. I tell ya though one day someone is going to get sick of this s**t and is going to use their IT skills to find these people and get revenge, just what kind of revenge will it be?? Muahahahahah

its a credit card response to lower interest rates.. when I called back the number was a Magic Jack user (possibly a company or at home worker) their mail box was full so I couldn't leave a "message for them" i have no credit cards so its nothing to worry about just an auto dialer.. I also use a magic jack so it is legit phone number. but just hang up all the same.

You know what really works when these telemarketers call?  I usually start yelling like a madman and swear, curse.  I usually say something like, "Do I f***ing call your house while you're sitting at the table with your f***ing family and try to sell you s**t"?  There is usually a pause and a whimper at the other end saying "Sir, you don't have to use that language".  I then follow that up with more crazy talk, swearing, yelling until they hang up on me.  At least I can get a little chuckle out of it.
