I got a call on my cell phone from this number.  They said it was for AmeriCredit, asking for a reference for a car loan for someone I don't even know.  They didn't ask for any personal information, but they also couldn't tell me how they got my name or number.

We were told our name was given as a reference for a car loan from a friend.  The call is coming from General Motors Acceptance Corporation.  It's Questionable.... We don't know of anyone that has bought a car from GMAC.  They are calling trying to trace down where the auto is so they can repro it.

Weird, I got a random call from them as well, no clue but it said from PeterBorough, ONTARIO Canada HOWEVER in our area, we have heard there has been a call scam to get $10 from people so BE careful

Listened to my voice mail. Caller was looking for an individual I use to know who had moved a couple of years ago.. They claim to be from GMAC financial stating that a payment was missed on their vehicle. You've go to be kidding me that they are tracking down people who knew this person to get information on. Origin of the phone call, I believe was from Canada.

They call to get info on people so they can re-possess their vehicle.  They called and asked me for a "personal reference" for my sister... they want to "update" her info... I lied and told them she is estranged and that I have no way of knowing where she lives because I thought it was so weird.  When I talked to my sister she told me she hasn't paid her payment for 4 months...makes sense now.
