Got a call from a man with an Indian accent, saying he was from Visa and Mastercard (Aren't they 2 different companies?), addressing me as Mrs.###. The phone is listed in my husband's name, so that was an easy guess. He said the federal government wanted to see rates lowered for people with good credit ratings like mine, so he was going to lower mine. He was unable to tell me Visa or Mastercard or which bank issued my cards. Tried to tell me he couldn't say because, while he had all the information in front of him, he couldn't be sure I was really Mrs. ###, so I would need to give him information about my cards, banks, etc, to prove I was Mrs. ###. I said, "Hold on a second, you called me. I didn't call you." He said he was not a card issuing bank like Canadian Tire. He gave his name as Christopher Mark at MCS Programming at 1-+1 866-945-1131, extension 263. He said I could call back to verify that I'd get him on the phone. I laughed. He said they would send me papers to fill in with my informationand, upon receiving them, the company would lower my interest rates on my cards, if I told him where to send the papers. I said, if you have all my information on the screen in front of you, you don't need me to provide that information. Again, he claimed to be doing it for verification. I said that I was sure that any change of interest rate would be reported to my in my regular statement. Bye!
