I've gotten this call several times from a seemingly Ottawa area phone number (and not seemingly long distance).I don't suggest anyone use the "invitation" to dial #9. You might enable access to your phone line for long distance scammers. So If you have dialed 9, you might want to check with your service provider for unauthorized charges.Don't take me as an expert but I take the rumours seriously enough to avoid the risk.

I actually got a call from these folks at my work number. This should be illegal. I am reporting them to Phonebusters as well.

(613) 667-5301 called my business phone line (secret/private number, no calls ever made or received to/from public numbers) at 6:17pm EST on Jan.31/2012, I let it ring through and it left a 52 second voicemail:

I'm not in debt and don't have any dealings with any related businesses. Probably an auto-dialer that is dialing every combination of numbers. Aren't they not allowed to call during dinnertime?
