called me saying, he is from ali mohammed, no idea what he is talking about. kept asking if i have a mortgage and wanting to confirm my address, then shortly after he disconnected.

Called me on a Saturday evening and left a message which said, "Hey John Fried, I'm fingering my a**hole right now." Disturbing.

btw if this is a routing number how are some people claiming to be able to call it and get someone that answers?

Got a call today from (604) 628-2598. I was in the shower at the time after just getting home from work, and no voicemail was left. The call (per my call log) came through at 3:42pm - Tuesday, May 12th, 2009.

Caller called and spoke in my mother tongue, Tamil and said that Telus has received complaints about our phone being used by Telemarketers. My husband asked what is your ID and call back number and he gave his Telus ID as 08 TEL 619 and gave 1 +1 866-585-1111 as a call back number. My husband said that he would call him back and hung up. I did google search on this number and got this thread.Previously there were calls from a Nebraska or Utah number who would just keep silent whenever we pick up. We stopped picking up calls from unknown numbers . But, this number caught us by surprise.

I've just started being bombarded with nuisance calls in the last week, including this no. They all started right after I place a few ads on Craigslist. When I did a quick search of one of the numbers, up came a Craigslist ad listed by someone selling something from a basement suite in North Vancouver.
I have never picked up, but it's really annoying. Yesterday I received three calls, back-to-back. As it happens, I just sprained my foot, so hobbled to the phone three times. This number (604) 628-2598) was call no. 3. A minute before that was a "blocked" call and a minute before that was (604) 678-9476 (a cursory search revealed that the latter no. was known to RCMP and could be reported to RCMP Phone Busters at 1-+1 888-495-8501), which I promptly did. Reason would dictate that all three calls came from the same person/people.
The RCMP told me to just not pick up. Today I blocked (604) 628-2598, but I'm sure they'll keep calling from the "blocked" and other numbers. I have better things to do with my life than dodge calls from scam artists, add to my "blocked" list, and sit around on hold for half an hour waiting for RCMP Phone Busters. There needs to be more energy and funds directed to protecting the public and maybe a little less to furthering technology right now. It's intrusive, violating and stressful.
