These people are very very good In spite of what we knew about this scam, we fell for it. I don't know how many victimsare willing to admit it because believe me our ego is completly deflated. They play on the emotions and even more so in our case they called on the day before Thanksgiving. emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

This happened to my Mother yesterday....exact same story, same names and everything. Beware...they are pretty convincing...thank goodness we didn't send them the $3400 that they wanted.

I too, was scammed by this alledged public defender named STAN CRAWFORD this morning. I was called by someone (supposedly in jail) who needed my help . I was then connected to the Public defender who explained what had happened. This person whom I knew hit a rental car. The people were on their way to the airport  and according to this public defender, were never aware that my friend had a low alcohol count. To keep them from finding this out, I could pay for repairs to the rental and his record would remain clean. He asked me if I was familiar with western union and explained what form I would need and how to fill it out. Mr. Crawford alsosuggested  a nearby Kmart could do the same in sending a money order.. If someone could do this for this friend of mine, the judge would not allow any mention of alcohol to be put on his permanent record.I was told how to fill out the paperwork on the senders form1. My Name2Johnny Alexander Benjumea Caro3.Medllin,  Columbia4.$2,650.also needed anywhere from $10 to $30 to send.I was told not to answer any questions. That this money was for an extended vacation and wasbeing sent to a relative. DO NOT mention the accident or alcohol. Then  Stan Crawford asked me to estimate how long this would take me, reminding me that Iwould be needing to go by the bank for cash. He said I could call him anytime if I had any questionsto call him. 1-(403) 616-5668. Said to call him with the receipt # NTCN:I think it's sad that people such as Stan Crawford don't get caught. The next victum may not figure it out in time.

I took a call from my x-wife in Oregon, that my son in Houston had an accident and was in jail for DUI.  Her Mom in S. Carolina took a call from my Son who was in jail.  He didn't sound right and she originally told him that he had the wrong number.  The person posing as my son said that he had been drinking and felt really bad and he was trying to talk quiet.  She believed that it was my son, and started the plan of sending money to the couple from Ecuador ... I called her....I'm in El Paso, she convinced me it was my son so I ran with it for a while...people crying, afraid, is anyone hurt...and on!  Timing of the events started to unravel as the so called public defender continued weaving a tale to my questions.  I had tried calling my son, no answer more worry!  Then I sent a text to him after reading this web site....."Hi Dad...I'm at lunch what's up?" "Wow you have been scammed badly Dad...gotta go!"What is our world coming to?!@@#$%$%^^&&&^%$#@!Thanks to this site for helping thru the emotion and getting to the truth!

Disgusted

So disgusted that there are people like this, getting away with stealing from innocent people who are just trying to help!!!  My Mom received a call from someone posing as my cousin.  The scary part is, they used his nickname and knew what to call my parents.  He said he was in jail for rear-ending a foreign person visiting the states who was in a rental car.  He said he was in the accident after he had left dinner with friends.  He said a public defender would be calling with further instructions.  Then the phone rang and it was, the so called, public defender Stanley Crawford.  He instructed my Dad to send $1800  and in doing so they would drop any charges.  UNFORTUNATELY, my Dad is so nice that he wanted to help.... So he rushed out and sent a money gram to someone named Jose Leon in Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic.  My Dad, who does not have much money, is now saddened and my parents are depressed because of these scammers. Shame on them!!! I hope they get caught and are prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!! :(  The telephone number they used was (403) 616-5668 - I called and there is a message with a female speaking "Offices of Stanley Crawford and Richard Carmichael.
