Jim, Chris and others above seem to think that being on the Do Not Call list will stop these callers. Au contraire. The CTRC makes the entire contents of the Do Not Call list available to telemarketers (so they know what numbers they are not supposed to dial). But there is NOTHING to stop sleazebag telemarketers from using the DNC list as as source of numbers to call.

I just got a call from zentel calling to raise $195 for children's leukemia. I asked for the name of the charity he was calling for and he said "..uh.. it's for leukemia". At that point I said that I wasn't interested and hung up. Seems like a hoax to me. I never pledge over the phone. I always go to the charity's website and donate online or send a cheque.
