I got a call from this phone number too, showing Rami Al-something and I didn't answer it. I don't answer unknown ppl or blocked calls anyways. They left no msg.

Got a call from this number: the woman knew a residents name and claimed to be collecting for a past-due "Reader's Digest" bill. Tried to demand banking and cheque information... possible scam?

This a.h. is probably calling you as a collector. You do not have to call him back, and you do not have to pick up the phone. There is no law that says you have to. If you received a claim letter about a credit account or a loan, the calls might be about your debt.If you are not too late in payments, and have not received a letter of claim for payment of a debt, then this a.h. is calling to harass you about the debt of someone else that the a.h. thinks you know. The a.h.believes his calling you will cause family or social problems for the person you know, and this harassment will get that person to pay his debt. This harassment is against the law and you should file a complaint with the Registrar of Collection Agencies in your province.

Just sent a message and after doing so, dug out the letters to recheck .... the company was General Electric Capital Corp (and the GS location of the address as per the internet is around the area where the number (514) 885-4444 is) ... either the Company name is legit but the address on the "form letter" I got is not theirs but the scam artist as I will now dub Rami el-whats'it or the Company name is altered somewhat.  Also the other company logo that appeared was NSC Financial Services Inc. (I think I put down the wrong initials of the same company) ... But this bit of info is now correct.I really hope this info gets sent to the RCMP Fraud squad so this character and its cohorts get nabbed!Thanks
