This number is from FreePhoneLine.ca and appears when the FreePhoneLine number is called by a caller that is blocking their ID.That is...1) "Bill" has a FreePhoneLine.ca (FPL) number which he can forward to any other number in Canada (like his cell)2) "Jane" calls Bill's FPL number but she decides to block her number so that he doesn't know what number she is calling from3) Bill receives an incoming call on his cell and sees (416) 642-0882 on his call display

Got a call about it from some holiday place or something.Person spoke really broken english (Indian accent) and said I filled out a form to win a prize in zellers or walmart or somewhere - except i dont shop there nor do i fill out forms like that. said he has my address, which is right, except he said i live in north york, which is what the postal office says, i always say toronto.told him i didnt fill anything out since he called and ask for Mr. or Mrs... and there is no Mrs. so couldnt have been me. Asked not to be called again and if I do it goes to the CRTC as i am registered with teh do not call list. He abruptly stopped talking and i hung up.

I answered this call and was told it was Bell TV. I'm on the do-not-call list, and am reporting the number.

Exact same call as bjay. Person claimed to be from "Visa Mastercard Company" saying I had been selected for a trip to Florida for 4 people. I asked for a contact number to call them back at and they gave me the 1-800 number for TD Waterhouse. Given that TD does not issued Mastercards the whole thing is completely suspect.
Person on the phone requested the 7 digits on the back of my Mastercard (which I made up as well as the fact that I even had a Mastercard at all), then he asked for the 3rd block of numbers on the front of the card, to which I again made up along with the expiry he requested. I asked him if he could verify my card immediately and he answered yes. He then read out a bunch of numbers which was supposely my Mastercard number and asked me to verify. I again questioned him if this was the number he had pulled from his database and he said yes. I can only assume he wanted me to correct his number and thereby give him a legit credit card number with expiry and the security code on the back.
The Caller addresses you as Mr. "insert your lastname here" or Ms. "lastname" and can obviously get your address through the phone book. Do not fall for readily available information as being verification that they are legit!
I've since reported this to the OPP but given that the number appears to be some cover number I doubt it's traceable. My only advise to people is to be EXTREMELY skeptical of phone calls which dangle carrots.

i've got a call today, didn't pick up, listen to the voice mail - nothing...i've heard a theory though - a wireless service provider makes the calls and charges you when you pick up (not sure but i think they charge as it was a minute or so), if you don't pick up your voice mail stores a message, even if there is nothing but silence, so when there are more then whatever messages in your plan - they charge you also, and it's not so hard i get like 7 empty messages a week (my limit is 3). and that might be cacked by the fact that the provider has no idea who/when/where called you. i might be wrong since i buy pay-as-you-go cards, and don't have any statements, but check yours...i also get calls from unknown, all 5-s or 0-s... pretty much every week, i wonder if those guys will get tired eventually ...
