This is an autodialled call. The machine auto scrolls through sequential numbers until it gets a response. It then knows that number is active, and logs it for future calls. It's all done automatically.

If they were on the receiving end of this harassment calling program, they might consider finding another way of doing business. Now that I know who is calling (and shame on them) I am not very likely to help Heart and Stroke Foundation with anything. And yes, I am on the "Do Not Call List". so how did they get my number? I suspect illegally !

This is the Heart and Stroke Fund looking for door knockers. Only one thing more annoying than telemarketers and that's a door knocker. I support the cause, but not the outdated collection method. I hope they change their outdated methods

In a day of call display and call blocking options you would think worthwhile charitable organizations might consider:1] showing their agency as the named caller and2] leaving a message saying they called and will try again OR asking for a call back.Showing yourself as u/k caller and not leaving a message puts you on the same level as a F^%$^&*N cold call telephone solicitor shilling some useless crap after a survey.Wise up?exhibit a wee bit of courtesy to those you wish to help you or from whom you expect to extract after tax monies.I check  numbers against this site for the express purpose of identifying such poorly managed charities and can assure you your envelopes wind up in the blue bin as a result.

I'm one of those door knockers.  If you don't want them, put up a "No Soliciting" sign.  I never approach such houses, and I instruct any canvasser reporting to me to do the same.
