Queries have been posted about the source of calls with area code 223. Don't necessarily assume this is a US area code. International country code 223 is Mali. This is a neighbor of Niger, which is singularly well renowned for Mail fraud, Internet fraud, and telephone scams. Niger is country code 224, and Mali is 223. Unless you know someone ther, you could expect that any calls coming from either of these "Area" codes would be an attempt to rip you off.

I pressed 1 - it transferred me to some guy who obviously rattled through his intro speech, introducing himself first as part of some kind of vacation company. He asked if I was 25 and when I played dumb / sluggish by responding " uh... I uh..... I don't think I understand what's happening...." hoping I could chew up his time and piss him off, he hung up.
I now have a vision of the guys in this call center with a stack of computer-initiated calls waiting for them, and they want to blast through as many cold calls as possible, so unless you kick ahead with an enthusiastic "YES", they'll just give up on you.
Waiting on the next call. I should really string them along and then waffle on the last few digits of my credit card number.......

Just got a call from this number on my BlackBerry. From what I read. it looks like a telemarketer scam, even though I didn't answer the call.

I work for Canadian Tire and I can assure you this is not us calling. Ironically enough i got the same call

Man! I'm so glad you posted this. I got a call from this number but was out for a smoke and when I tried to call it back out of curiosity it said it was not in service. It was driving me insane, I hate missing calls!Good thing it was just sh*tty telemarketers.

I got a call from this number a few minutes ago too, and got the same message as ModernMan, above, though the automated voice spoke so quickly I didn't hear the "Canadian Tire" part. I just hung up. This is annoying because I'm on the do not call list!
