Received a call from this # (506) 472-1977 this evening. Since I live in the area, I decided to call back, ?but only got an answering service, which didn't identify itself, but stated I could leave a name, number and a message stating my business.

Its not the police force... its the Police Force Association (or union)... they are not your local police department.
They are asking for donations, but unfortunately they are not a registered charity and will not issue receipts for tax purposes. I made the mistake of donating once to them, and now they hound me at least twice a month looking for more $$$ for various "causes".
If you do answer... ask if they will provide you with a tax receipt....
