Had 2 messages today for my father.  Stated that he no longer has controll of his finaces and they need to stop calling.  The caller was not happy and stated that he has a business opportuntiy for him.  I wish they would stop lying to the elderly.

This is, indeed, CollectCorp. They've been calling me for years, trying all kinds of stupid stuff. Initially, I spoke to them and tried to speak some common sense to them, but that didn't work.

They are contracted to collect for a lot of different companies, including several banks and credit cards, as well as student loans.

I eventually installed an Asterix server (a type of souped up phone system), gave it a list of their numbers that I had collected over time, and programmed the server to pick up the phone and play back a recording just for them (it's the same recording you get when you dial a number that is out of service, which I recorded by dialing such a number).

The calls have been tapering off. Maybe I'm on to something *grin*.

Youre an insensitive a**! I wish everyone that is getting calls from these folks much success. Your higher power will teach you lessons but he won't abandon you. Stay strong...life is good

RECEIVING CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER, A MAN  ASKED IF A  RELATIVE OF MINE (BY NAME), WAS THERE AND THAN ASKED IF I WAS HIS DAUGHTER, I AM NOT SO I TOLD HIM SO AND HUNG UP...HE THAN PROCEEDED TO CALL ME BACK USING A "UNAVAILABLE UNKNOWN" NUMBER....I HAD ALREADY LOOKED UP THE NUMBER ON THE INTERNET AND SAW THESE POSTS...I ASKED THE MAN NOT TO CALL AGAIN AND HE STARTS YELLING AT ME..SO I HUNG UP AGAIN...HE HAS CALLED BACK NUMEROUS TIMES AND I JUST DO NOT ANSWER BUT IT IS VERY DISTURBING AND ANNOYING....

Is it true that they call your neighbours and give out personal info, and if so what do they tell them.  I don't get along with my neighbours and would prefer they all stay out of my business!  It's funny, I left one day (all morning) and when I got home there were no new calls, 10 minutes later they called 5 times.  I was only home for 10 mins, is it possible they called a neighbour earlier and asked them to contact them back when they saw my car in the laneway?  Has this happened to anyone?  I had no idea it comes to this!  What other #'s (1 - 888) r they calling from????  I have some of those too.

I received a call this evening around 4:30pm from a Male stating to speak with me. I didn't recognize his voice and when I asked him who this was he refused to tell me his name and only that this call was relating to an important business matter. When I dialed (416) 935-2848 all I got was a voice message. I changed my phone number immediately after this incident.
