So this guy called me today from the (416) 756-2096 number. I never answer calls I don't know - First off. He left a voicemail with an extension to call saying there is a urgent matter to discuss , that he was from TCR via the Ministry of Finance. Let me say this - I have only 2 debts that have been written off. 6 years ago TCR had called me saying I owed a $3500 overpayment for my SECOND CAREER ( which is NOT a loan) I disputed this but before doing my research , I paid them $1500 right away. I then did my research and throughout picking up the phone told them I was unemployed , barely getting by and will be considering bankruptsy. Word of advice- collections will call with all your info ( may lie a bit saying they can see what's in your bank account etc) and ask you to verify your name , birth-date, and PIN. Do Not EVER verify this , do Not give them ANY banking info , address or employment info. Say you have 0 debt it must be mistaken identity and they can send you a letter. Now , research the statute of limitations. If the debt is over 2 years old ( for ontario) and it is unsecured debt , I wouldn't bother paying a penny and restarting the clock ...they legally cannot touch your bank account without sueing and having a court order. I believe these scammers are calling regarding this 6 year old debt . I'll continue blocking their number because they aren't getting sh*t and in 2 years it will be off my file. ☠☠☠☠💸

Thank you for sharing these scam alerts. I do not have an unpaid debt, and not aware of anyone owing me money.
I have not and will not return their daily calls. I am probably going to give the local police a head's up.

TCR collection company

I got this number soo many many times and with others (1-+1 800-727-4145 / 1-+1 800-223-5315 / (289) 201-2420 / (289) 434-0420 / 211-000-56654 ). And they told me they're TCR collection agercy which worked by Government about OSAP. And asking me to pay them the part of OSAP (Ontario part). I've told them I'm paying the monthly payment to OSAP through bank already but they told me I just paid the Fuderal part. The collection company is helping the Ontario provincial government to chase back the Ontario part of OSAP!??! They gave me two numbers that I need to contact them how to pay the Ontario part of OSAP: 1-+1 800-387-5514 or (416) 756-2096 ext. 5094. I've talked to the real OSAP number by Government that they told me that is impossible to do that. The only OSAP I need to pay is throught Government by one's social insurance number. I went to the Human Resource department and told them my case. They suggest me to ask them the date of load and all detail information what they have as if they are helping government to collect. There're 2 happened maybe: 1) My SIN was stolen by someone to cheat; 2) spam call.

One of the request I still don't understand; I loaned $3100, they ask me if I can pay $2500.00 at once, they will withdraw the case file which own by government.

They called me 4 times within 9:40am- 9:52am this morning. Didn’t leave a voicemail but by the comments here I will assume it’s a scam of some sort regarding people with student loans because I also have taken loans from osap but it was almost 7 years ago now.

I started getting calls from (416) 756-2096 on June 17 / 2020. Got 4 more calls (June 24, July 22, July 29, July 31). I was already blocking calls from the 416 area code for several years and I look at call logs every so often and I see these calls and I look up the number. I don't have (never had) OSAP loan so no idea why they'd be calling. If you look for TCR on the web you get their website (tcr.ca) and phone number (416) 774-4000. Their caller ID in my phone logs is just Toronto Ontario so these calls could be forged. I'd like to know where (on what web-page or web-site) the number (416) 756-2096 is linked to TCR. I'm going to look at setting my system up to forward calls from that number to TCR, see if they like that.

Contact the government of ontario, best place to start. However student loans follow you forever, students used to get osap, finish school, then claim bankruptcy to get rid of the loan/grant. That loophole was closed years ago so they send these accounts to collection agencies who will hound you for a dog's age to get any amount of money they can.

these people have been calling for a boarder I had who moved out in 2017, gave me his info stating that they are calling regarding an osap loan, from the 90's! Have explained to them several times a week for over 2.5 years that he doesn't live here anymore. I found out they did get him, he survives on disability from an injury while he was taking his courses. They can't garnish his wages only take his tax refund, that he doesn't get as he pays no taxes on odsp, he called me to tell me that they called him and he blocked their number. So they started calling me again but this time they don't give a name just say I have an open file in their office. Oh and it isn't just him they call for, I've noted 5 different people they call my residence for.

I have been receiving these calls for about two years regarding my son's school loan. They tell me they don't have his cell number and they ask me for it. They are not professional at all, so it raised a red flag for me right away . . .

I have tried doing some research on credit agencies and what the policies/rules in Ontario are for student loan debt, and unsecured debt...do you have a recommendation on where to start? I have gotten several different calls and not sure what is legit and what my rights are...

Total Credit Recovery. They are "contracted" by the Ontario Ministry of Finace to manage outstanding or delinquent student debt. Specifically, the Ontario Provincial portion of an OSAP Loan that has gone into collections and YES, believe it or not, Student Loans are split into "two" and there is both a Federal and Provincial portion when it get's sent to Collections. Federal portion is assigned to CRA and the Provincial portion to one of 4x contracted Ontario Collection Agencies. If this happens to you, you'll end up with two separate debts on your student loan. Their phone number and details are listed right on the OSAP Website.

Claiming to have a file on behalf of the ontario minister of finance. Clue one if the government wanted to reach me they would contact me not a credit recovery agency. Fraudulent right from the start. Ya like I will call you...

They call and don't leave any messages. If they are claiming to be a collection agency with other callers, then they are a fraudulent company because I don't have any debt and don't owe anyone money. Sounds like a scam to me.

This company supposed to report to Canada as Scam Company. The Indian woman said that I need recovery credit, even I never have any credit from anyone and I’m only an international student. And she is very rude and pretends like I had a problem with credit

Very rude woman trying to get my personal information. I declined and she got furious.
No one should ever have to give out their personal information to someone that iniciates the call.
There are many scams out there!!!
If they are real they would of understood my point of view when I told them I will NOT give my information to them because of many CRA scams out there. Instead, they got angry when I did not give my info and later mocked me by imitating me and repeating my last words with a hostile voice/tone.
Very unprofessional if they are ‘real’
