We are registered with National Do-Not-Call-List At 2.05 PM ? We receive a LONG DISTANCE call without caller ID. Caller identified himself as JOHN from National Do-Not-Call-List Registry - Govt of Canada. He said that a girl from the Department shall call us in a short while to issue a PASSWORD NUMBER against our registration with them. Henceforth, whenever we receive an unwanted call, by pressing this password number, we shall be able to BLOCK the calling number from calling us again in future.At 2.09 PM ? We receive a call with Caller ID 1 (416) 366-0260 identifying the message being from Craiglist and gave a Password Number with a note of caution that same should not be given to any unauthorized person.At 2.12 PM ? We receive a LONG DISTANCE call without caller ID. Caller again identified himself as JOHN from National Do-Not-Call-List Registry - Govt of Canada. He requested that he be given the generated Password number that was just given to us a few minutes back, TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS OF ACTIVATING THIS FACILITY so that we can avail the SAME TO BLOCK UNWANTED CALLS. We refused to give him this number and requested him to call back after an hour to enable us to verify the facts. At this instance, WITH VOICE OF AUTHORITY, he says that IF WE DONOT GIVE HIM THE NUMBER IMMEDIATELY, HE would impose a fine of $50, as we were unnecessarily wasting time of a person in authority. At this, we just hang up, never to hear from him again.   Later, on visiting the National Do-Not-Call-List website https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/index-eng we DID NOT found anything to this effect. IS THIS A SCAM? WHAT MAY BE THE PURPOSE?
