223 Area Code Calls

Queries have been posted about the source of calls with area code 223. Don't necessarily assume this is a US area code. International country code 223 is Mali. This is a neighbor of Niger, which is singularly well renowned for Mail fraud, Internet fraud, and telephone scams. Niger is country code 224, and Mali is 223. Unless you know someone ther, you could expect that any calls coming from either of these "Area" codes would be an attempt to rip you off.

the number is obviously spoofed and the message is fake as well, I just received a call saying 'because you are a valued Zeller's customer' -- well I don;t shop at Zellers nor do they have my number.  I was wanting to find out more about them but got cut off.  There's got to be a way to stop these crooks!

I don't believe they are even a telemarketer... Would have loved to hear their entire spiel.

226 originates from southwestern Ontario, Canada.

Just got the Canadian Tire call.. 3000 travel dollars.. i just hung up..
also on the DNC list.. this was my cell they called.

Just got the same call on my cell. This seems very similar to a call last month from that vacation resort in Mexico from (514) 590-8989 I am also on the NDNCL but from what I hear, it only works for calls that originated in Canada.
