Adding to Message from 'cw' - These calls from (905) 595-8640 (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and (905) 346-4828 (St. Catharines-Thorold, Ontario, Canada) - both Unpublished Landlines. NOTE: They have been calling weekly for past six months or so; started at least during summer of 2009...Last call on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Other calls from 1.+1 800-375-5872 (again, unable to locate on Internet--unpublished). ALSO NOTE: These callers are very insistent, persistent and difficult to get off the phone. They pretend they know you but ask for your Card # (or at least the 'last 3 digits'); likewise, they try to get your Social Insurance Number in the same manner, and ask for your birthdate. URGENT WARNING: BE VERY CAUTIOUS--NEVER GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE TELEPHONE. ANOTHER CAUTION--DO NOT give personal information Over the INTERNET either. If a caller claims to be from a Bank or a Credit Card company, hang up and call your own branch to verify if your bank is soliciting this type of business (such as protecting your credit card interest rates, or reduce them). TWO YEARS AGO, I had a caller (about 9:30 P.M.) call me (supposedly from the Scotiabank)...I traced the number at that time to a Scotiabank Building, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (BUT the Scotiabank NO LONGER used that building for any type of branch or credit card business...so, the building ONLY HAD THE NAME OF THE Scotiabank on that building. THESE PEOPLE ARE VERY INTELLIGENT AND CREATIVE in the way they are trying to scam people. AGAIN, BE AWARE...If anyone asks for any personal information about you, BE SURE TO HANG UP...STOP THE CALL IMMEDIATELY...give no information to them. DO NOT BE Duped. Protect your identity BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE will. May you all receive discernment in this area. ALL THE BEST.

I also received a call from this number today and was equally disturbed. An indian male claimed to be from Visa and wanted to lower my interest rate based on payment history. I flat out said I don't believe you are from Visa, quoted his phone # and demanded to be taken off his list and promptly hung up.
FRAUD
Call your local police and phonebusters if these people call you !

I got a call around quarter after 4pm on March 30th, 2010, and when I answered the phone they hung up. Upon looking the # up online, it appears other ppl. have gotten calls from this number with the same result, and when they call it back, a person with a east indian accent picks up, and says something about lowering your interest rate on something or other,
Me!
I got a call from them this morning. They knew how many credit cards I had, the told me the first 4 and last 4 numbers of my credit cards.I told them that I thought they were a scam, and since it seemed like they knew so much about me I decided to block my cards and get new ones to be on the safe side.I talked/reported it to Mastercard and VISA and it is most def a scam! and they said it is happening more and more.be awaaare!

Same thing, only the guy phoned back after I told him I didn't have a credit card. He asked why. I told him I didn't need one! Then he asked me where I work, and told him it was none of his business, and he could look up things like 'THE CANADIAN PRIVACY ACT" if he wanted...and promptly hung up. He phoned back, and started coming on to me, saying he wished I wasn't married, and I'm like, WTF? He phones back and he'll get more than what he bargained for. Oh yeah...he said his name was Ronny Walters, and he worked for Royal Bank Visa. I asked him if I called The Royal Bank, would they confirm that he worked there? He said, "Of course"...so, Royal Bank, eyes open if this is not you...they are giving you a bad rap!!
