This isn't a scam, its a contracted service for the NSLSC (National Student Loans Services Centre). They call to remind you when your loans are about to enter re-payment, are in arrears or have other issues. It's not a "bad" call necessarily, unless you're actually behind on payments.

I just called Student Loans to double check. The agent I spoke with said the number was one of theirs before I got the last 4 digits out. I guess it's legit. I called Student Loan's 866 number. They had called me because they tried to mail me something and had an old address on file.

The number is legit and it is from the NSLSC. Someone from this number called me tonight just before 9pm and when I answered, he/she hung up. I called the number back and the guy on the phone said he was calling on behalf of NSLSC and asked for my SIN. I told him that I googled the number and thought it a scam. I said I was going to call NSLSC directly. He offered the number but I refused stating that I had it. I then called the NSLSC directly and after punching in my SIN, was re-directed to the number that initially called and actually got the same guy! I told him that I was following up on a suspicious number and that I spoke with someone earlier and he said "that was me". They seem totally legit. But be suspicious BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW...IT ONLY TAKES ONLY PHONE CALL! Stay vigilant!
