received a call from this number this morning. it is listed as BMO fraud department. spoke to BMO. they said they didn't call. looks like criminals are using caller id spoofing. BMO fraud department said do not give personal information to anyone who e-mails or calls asking for it. call them back to confirm. So i was suspicious too about the call, i ended the call abruptly and called BMO using the number from the back of my card, they confirmed the number is legitimate but it's an internal number they use, which is why it's not publicized.
If you're ever unsure, always call the number on the back of your card and ask for the number for the fraud department or ask to be transferred (for those of you paranoid)
Same as a couple people here - got a call saying there are security issues and to call them right away. Looked at my online account and it was perfectly fine. Scam for sure! Don't call them or give any information, call a direct BMO agent if you'd like to double check but don't call this number. Do not answer. This is a scam. Call the number on the back of your card. NOT the number these clowns give. They called me too due to suspicious activity on my MBO MC... here's the kicker - I'm not even a customer of BMO... I called their regular number and they told me that this number doesnt seem to be valid, they didn't have it in their directory of internal numbers... investigation is on the way We just got a call from them and called the number they gave us. They asked for our credit card number and we did not feel comfortable. We called the official number on the back of our card and they checked this number and said that not only was it NOT a BMO number and that they would NEVER ask you to give them your credit card number over the phone. There was indeed NO flag on our account and it was definitely a fraudulent call. Just got a call from this number to my unlisted number today, Sunday morning. They said a replacement BMO Mastercard that had been sent to me, ending with 4 digits, had been activated. I have a BMO Mastercard but it doesn't end in those 4 digits and it hasn't been replaced recently. Part of the message said to phone them back if I hadn't activated that card. When I called, it wanted me to enter my card number. I didn't and it wouldn't let me go any further. I tried pressing "0" but nothing happened. I called the BMO number that is on my statements. She wasn't concerned or didn't understand. She wanted my card number but that wasn't the point so I didn't give it to her. I've had my phone number only 9 months so I suggested that they might have been trying to contact to person who had the number before me but she didn't care. Instead, she told me to phone Phone Busters at 1-888-495-8501. When I called them, the message said that their offices aren't open and gave the hours.I think this is a scammer. When I called the real BMO number it gave me the option of pressing "0" if I didn't have a card number but this number didn't. Too many things about this are fishy. This number is NOT legitimate. Call the number on the back of your card! Ask them if this number is legitimate. IT'S NOT!The scammers are posting comments on these sites to deceive you! It is a legit number from BMO Security,my card also was fraudulently used
but is was noticed by BMO right away and my card cancelled right there
Yes, it is clearly the BMO fraud department, on the ball and checking if anyone has made fraudulent modification on your MC card, or used it fraudulently - the number is ligit. They keep calling me
