Got a call from this number, but when I called this number, the provider's auto message says this number is not in used.  How is this possible?

I got a call from (780) 424-5841 at 6:15pm the other evening.  The person on the other end was a male, and it sounded like his voice was computer altered to disguise his identity.  He greeted me by name so he obviously knew who he was trying to call. He claimed he was from an alarm system company, and offered me a free wireless alarm system as an Easter special.  When I said I was not interested, he asked if it was because I already had an alarm system in my home.  I told him again that I was not interested and hung up.  I seemed like he was fishing to figure out if my home was protected, and if not it could become a target for breaking and entering.  I tried calling the number back, but all I got was the message "this number is not in use". After reading the other postings, I am definitely going to report the call to the authorities.

Just received call from this number; I answered and man on other end called me by name.  He claimed to be calling on behalf of Windows, and wanted information in regard to my computer.  He claimed there were files of a suspicious nature (viruses) and asked me to log on and provide him information.  When asked again who he was calling on behalf of, stated Windows.  I told him that IF, and that's a very big if, I had problems with my computer, I would seek out my own solutions.  I also told him I had very good security (to which he claimed was not good enough..!!), and would not provide him with any information.  When I asked the Company name he was calling on behalf of, he hung up...Don't fall for this obvious scam..!!

Just received a call from this number and yes no one on the other side....Can we have our service providers block/ filter this number from their system?

I think this is a "dummie" number. When someone calls from a calling card, calls off of the computer, or uses a scrambler..a phone number will come up on your caller ID. This number is not really in service, its just a "dummie" or masking number. I have had a few of these call me, and one was a friend who told me about this.

got a threatning call from this number, guy on the other end knew who i was which makes this very strange, few minutes later a dead end call from a private number. did not try to call it back.i would like to know more about this #
