On July 18th, 2010 my call display registered 8 phone calls in 2 hours from this telephone number. I expected that some dire emergency to a family member had happened - what else could warrant this type of urgency to speak to me? When I called the number back I got the recording that the number isn't in use.

FYI ...

I had received five calls from a telemarketer in the last week informing me that my number had been randomly selected for a free cell phone from Bell and Solo Mobility.  I advised the caller each time that my number was on the do not call list, but they did not understand that.  (FYI, I have never done business with either Bell or Solo.)

On the 5th call, I was quite firm in my words about having my number removed and then hung up.  In less than a minute, I received a 6th call, this time from (780) 424-5841.  The man was upset with me for the call I had just received.  He identified himself as Alex Harrison from Bell and Solo Mobile and said he was calling from North York, Ontario.  I repeatedly told him my number was on the national do not call list and he was to immediately stop calling me.  He suggested I call Bell at +1 800-627-0123 if I had a problem with him (it didn't seem to register that I was on the national do not call list).

BTW, an internet check of that number shows it is not available to Alberta - not even sure who it is.

FYI, Bell's customer care number is +1 800-667-0123.  I called Bell to notify them about how this person conducted business for Bell, if he is even acting on behalf of Bell.  They have no record of an Alex Harrison and nor is the Alberta-based number registered with Bell nor is there any free cell phone promotion of the kind the telemarketers claimed.

Well folks it seems that we have a number that the criminal element can use from another country. They will call you between 2-6am for they are in Nigeria. They can be any of the illegal activity gangs that are there. I wish that TELUS or ROGERS or any of the other number providers just cut them off when you get 3 complaints, you know three strikes you're out of here. But then they, the providers , do not look at it that way for them it is income and one hell of disruption in our day's activities or sleep. If you do get a voice it is from a landline that is not from this country but from one that has very poor infrastructure like Nigeria. And they may be on their cells but the connection is a little better but not that good that you can hear them clearly.
Like the other callers I am wondering why the authorities in Canada are not doing anything about this. I k  ow that we are not a majority of the populous voters but we are citizen of a country that respects the privacy from these person unknow or known to us.
The reason I knwo about this number I set up a sting to find out legalities that we are not looking at and our own government is just not  doing their job in protecting us from these crooks, scamers, what ever, whom ever they are we are the prey, the victims that have to pay the price and some have and will be going to jail because of these people.
So please contact your Federal government representative and put a bee in their bonnet and keep at it for it is the only way that we can get results in Canada. If they do not do their job then vote them out and let them be unemployed like the rest of us.

Hello:I'm from Alberta and just received a call from (780) 424-5841.  My husband answered the phone as it looked like a local call.  The person on the other end went on and on trying to sell us cell service.  We declined but what raised a red-flag was that we, like so many other people are on the national do not call list.  From past posts regarding this number, they are trying to "sell" a number of things and thank you to those who have taken the time to share their experiences regarding this number.

Keep gettng calls. Asked shaw to take number off list of calls my number would accept.... they said another $ 10.00 a month.... What a rip off.

This number, (780) 424-5841, has called me 3 times today. When I finally answered it was BBC or something marketing, looking to do some kind of survey. They knew they were calling a cell phone, asked them how they obtained the number, was told it was on the computer, asked her how the computer gets the number. Said she didn't know but could ask her supervisor. Asked her to please remove my number from her list and she said
"Since you said list, we can remove it from the list"
Wtf....
