"like what is with some people these days???" ...the person wasn't a telemarketer, he was a criminal trying to defraud you. Hence not taking a hint and being abusive to you.
"What is the point of the NDNCL if telemarketers still call!!" ...they're not telemarketers, they are criminals. They don't care about the law.
"the operator machine said it was not an assigned number. wtf?!" ...the criminal organisation that called you is "spoofing" their number to disguise where they are calling from.

Same auto robot:

I just received an automated message from (778) 421-2664 saying that because I'm a valued Rogers customer I'm being offered 3000 travel miles, "press 1 to accept".I then hung up.

I just received a call from (778) 421-2664 on my cel phone.Hesitantly, I answered it to hear a robot female voice congratulating me that "as a Telus customer I had just won 3000 travel miles...press 1 to accept". Stupidly....I pressed 1, only out of curiosity and they connected me to a man who hardly spoke English. He said I qualified to win a travel package on behalf of a name I could not understand. When I questioned him to repeat the name and then asked what his association with Telus was.....he hung up on me.

I am a Telus customer, and I have just received this call as well. I did not bother picking up, since I don't know anyone in British Columbia, and no message was left.
I assume there was a yet another leak of certain Telus Mobility client phone numbers, which will now be used one by one in hope of scamming unsuspecting, trusting people.
That's the age of technology for you people.
Please stay vigilant, and use common sense. There is no shortage of low-lives in this world, beleive you me.
