I never relinquish my information to any sources over the internet, but it occurred to me that my information may have been taken from a job posting website as I've been responding to help ads. It's the only thing I've done different in the last while and could explain why a marketer now has my info. As well, the website posted a warning(well after the fact) of some one posting fake ads to steal information(Craigslist). Beware.
me yet again
Again with a middle of the night call. 5:30am this time. All it ever does is beeps. Not the fax beep/static type sound, but beeeep.. pause... beeeeepp.. About 4 or 5 times. If it's a calling card number or something, what's up with the long beeps? Called the operator "0" and explained it all. All he said was that it was a fax and that they can try contacting whoever has that number and ask them to not call me. Thanks Telus, that's a real help!

Telemarketer automated message asked if my household had a landline or a cellphone. It offered to compensate me for the survey. It gave me the option to press 1) landline or 2) cellphone. So I pressed 2, and got the following contact information for offer of a refund:ASDE SURVEY SAMPLER729 St-Joseph, Suite 201Gatineau, QCJ8Y 4B61-800-672-2813Called via masked number (604) 629-2009However, after thinking about the offer, they would be offering me a refund of $1 to send them my name & my personal address. If I send them the info, the cost for them is $1, but the cost for me is about $1 for envelope and stamp, plus 2 minutes of my airtime and loss of privacy. In short, they're paying me $1 to voluntarily give up my privacy.Sorry, my privacy is not for sale.
Creeped out
Just got a call from this number. It was a cantonese-speaking woman who wouldn't say anything until I said "Hi" like five times. Then she asked for someone in my family (she actually said the name), and I said, "She's not here, who's this", thinking it was someone we know. Then the lady asked if this was home or cell phone. I said home, then she hung up...I called the number back, but like everyone else, I just get a dial tone. :S

Yup, "(604) 629-2009" has hot me too (as of Sept 22.07). If I follow people's comments rightly, there's practically nothing you can do about the criminals doing this. . . arg.frustrated
