Someone with a distinctly south-east Asian accent, calling himself "Adam Smith" from "Virtual IT Support" told me that his company's network had detected a virus being downloaded onto my computer.  Because I was a priority Microsoft customer, he was phoning with support to help me fix the problem.

I didn't pursue the call so I don't know what info he wanted to scam.  Since we don't use Microsoft products on our computers it was clearly a scam, aside from the other highly sceptical aspects of his story.

I just got a call from a man from Virtual IT Support as well, demanding that I turn on the computer so he can "walk me through to cleaning out all the viruses I've downloaded". I'm in the process of moving, so I told him I cannot do that, since everything is packed up. He completely disregarded what I had said, and continued telling me to turn my computer on.

So then I asked him which computer? I have more than one. His reply: "Your oldest computer." GG. I hung up on him right then.

And yes, he also had an East-Asian accent.
