I called the number back, a recorded message comes on from Dwight Duncan, Minister of Finance. The message states they will be calling again at 8pm on Tuesday and you are asked to stay on the line and participate in the budget disucssions....

They called last night and left a town cousel live meeting on our answering machine. It went on and on.  Who is this guy.  The phone number was (416) 613-8071.

If you answer this phone number, simply say "bite me" and hang up.  If it calls back, just unplug the phone.  Don't give these slime the satisfaction.  As to blocking the number...you have my well wishes.  These slimes call from a thousand different numbers, few of which are "real".  Why is it a 416 area code but he's really calling from Microsoft (trust me, they aren't in Toronto, hell not even in Canada...try Virginia)?  It's because it's either rerouted or a completely fake number.  So block it all you want, but the next time you get a call from this slime it'll likely be a different one altogether.  The police can't help.  Dwight can't help.  Microsoft, with more money and clout than most countries can't stop these slimes.  Actually, other than "hang up", you might want to try my tactic.  Ensure you have an airhorn (if you don't want to invest in one, use a smoke alarm and use the "test button"), handy by the phone and when it turns out to be one of these slimes wanting to scam you, let them have it right in the receiver.  Deafened people rarely call me back.  You will likely find they will be less likely to call you too.  And that goes for all the scammers out there.  I find it gets me on their "do not call lists" very quickly.

I just got a call.  Didn't answer it.  My tactic now is if I don't recognize the number, I am no longer answering.  I am glad I didn't after reading this.  I too received two back to back calls.  I didn't answer either.  The 1st call although it showed up as a local number, it rang like it was long distance, which is why I didn't answer.  A few seconds later, the 2nd call came in; again from the 2nd number but this time it rang in like it was local.  Very strange.

Just called the police here in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They indicated that this is a very popular and ongoing problem. They are aware of the company and of their tactics. The way it was explained to me was that "the company is set up only for outgoing calls" so the police attempts to contact them haven't been very successful. They did tell me that it is indeed a scam. They also feel that this number may not be local and that it may be originating overseas. The best solution if you receive a similar call is to hang up. As long as you don't give them any personal information, any credit card numbers or any access to your computer than you shouldn't have any other problems.I spoke to the girl from dispatch because they have recieved so many complaints the police is no longer taking any more complaints at this time. She was very nice but she said there isn't much more they can do right now for me. As for the abusive person who called me back she indicated they are very rude and they are now resorting to scare tactics and threats when they realize that the person they've called is pushing back.. DO NOT GIVE ANY ACCESS TO THESE BULLIES. Thanks.
