Went to call AT&T at 1-+1 800-634-4948 and accidentally switched the last 2 digits to 84. Got a recording about an international call number being changed and to call some other number for a non-refundable service fee charged directly to my phone. I simply hung up. About 30 mins later, I started getting calls from 1-(416) 555-5555 Dir Asst ON. I bet there is a connection. Wating to call AT&T back during their regular hours and see what may have already appeared on my bill.

Received a phone call from this number this afternoon, and I am an AT&T customer. I picked up the phone, and I couldn't hear anything for awhile, and then a woman came on the phone and said "this is Linda" in either a Spanish or Asian voice. I told her she had the wrong number, and then I hung up on her. Only minutes before, I received a call from another number 261-444-4867, and the same women was on the phone, although the call was breaking up that time, so I hung up on her. The second call was listed as a call from directory assistance, the first call simply stated "name not found". Weird.

I live in Toronto where the area code is 416 and I just tried calling (416) 555-5555 from my landline. (I did this feeling safe enough because I am protected by an extension so if some idiot calls me using that number, s/he will only reach a machine.) It should be a free local call. But as soon as I dial that number, it says "Please dial 1 or 0 plus the area code before the number you are dialing. Please hang up and try your call again." Considering my landline is 416, they should be in the same area code, and I should NOT have to dial 1, as it shouldn't be a long distance call. However, it is, meaning that the number you are seeing on your caller IDs is NOT the number of whoever is calling you! This is spam! Be very wary of these calls, and do NOT release personal information!
