I am getting on average 5 calls a day on my cell phone from numbers that start with 416-000-.... The recorded message says "Press 1 to reduce your credit card interest rate". I have pressed 1 on several occasions to try to get the name of the company calling me. As soon as I tell them I want to have a callback number to call them or ask what company they are, even when near the end of conversation, they disconnect. My friends and colleagues are also receiving several calls from the 416-000-xxxx (xxxx means that each time they call, the last 4 digits change). The only way to get rid of these spam calls to cell phones, is to change the cellphone tarrifs and make them similarto Japan. In Japan, the cellphone owner never pays for incoming calls. Always, those who call the cell phone have to pay for calling the cell phone. If we get CRTC to change the cellphone tarrifs, the spam calls to cellphones will stop.
