My father got a call from this number last night but missed it. They they called again this morning and they asked for me directly and after a short back and forth they hung up on him. He called them back and was told that it was a "nuisance call." Mind you that I have never once used his number for anything. My father said it sounded as though it was a middle aged American man. I called the number back and spoke to an individual named "Sean." He was polite and clearly from Canada due to the accent. We spoke shortly and he said he's been in touch with his provider because he's been receiving calls from all over the place but the provider told him they could not do anything beyond suggest he change his number. He said some people that call him are nice and some are angry but they all say they've been receiving calls from his number in the past 24 hours, asking for individuals directly or not leaving messages. "Sean" said he found it weird that people would return long distance missed calls. He was able to ramble off the 289, 905, 416, placing him outside of Toronto. My gut is telling me he wasn't lying to me but you can call and be the judge. In my opinion it appears this number has been used in a spoof. Spoofing is the act of making another number besides your own appear on the caller ID of the person you were calling. I believe this is legal as long as you're not using it to pretend to be law enforcement or to commit any sort of crime. It can be used by anyone ranging from someone who's working from home but trying to appear to be at the office to a person that is trying to appear to be someone different altogether. Either way in my opinion it's wrong to put an innocent person's number into the caller ID and then make mysterious calls.
