This stupid number calls at odd hours, late at night esp.

Call-Valet blocks up to 200 numbers, includingcomplete area codes (like all 866).  It's a bitpricey, though.  But for me, it's worth it.

I had a missed call. When called back, it just disconnected.I made an entry "SCAM" in my contacts and I just add all the sketchy phone numbers there, so I don't pick up when they call again.I'm on the Canadian national do not call list and yet the technology is getting ahead of it.

Legally, there are certain types of callers that the do-not-call list doesn't apply to. Charities, political parties, and news-gathering organizations for example. Pollsters and people selling newspaper subscriptions are included in the last of these groups. That's why you're still getting a lot of calls.
